“Sony has revealed the Sony Xperia Tablet Z, a powerful 10-inch Android tablet with the slimmest body yet seen. Following on from the announcement of theSony Xperia Z smartphone, Sony has opened out the premium Z brand to its tablet roster. The result is a tablet that adopts the aforementioned smartphone’s sharp corners, strict rectangular shape and flat profile. It’s quite a striking thing to look at, as you can see. The Sony Xperia Tablet Z’s specs are as impressive as the device looks.
The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is a full-sized Android tablet with a 10.1-inch HD (1920 x 1200) display. It runs on a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm CPU and 2GB of RAM. This is backed by 32GB of internal storage and microSD expansion. Sony has always packed its smartphones with impressive camera technology, and with the Sony Xperia Tablet Z it’s doing the same for its tablets. It sports an 8.1-megapixel camera with (according to Sony) the first ever backside illuminated sensor to be put in a tablet. We’d say this doesn’t really matter due to the unwieldy nature of the 10-inch tablet format, but given the number of people you see using tablets to take pictures at events this could be a major selling point. But that’s not the biggest feature of the Sony Xperia Tablet Z. For that, you only have to look at it. The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is incredibly thin. At just 6.9mm thick, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z is the thinnest tablet ever made. It’s even thinner than the iPad mini – by a good 3mm. In spite of this super-thin chassis, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z is said to be both dust and water-proof. Sony has also managed to squeeze its S-Force virtual surround sound system into that slender shell. The Sony Xperia Tablet Z will be hitting the Japanese market some time in the spring. There’s no word yet on pricing or a wider release.
