RIM and Cisco partner to offer VoIP for BlackBerry

Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review“Research in Motion and Cisco have been working together on the integration of the Cisco’s Unified CallManager 5.0 into RIM’s Wireless LAN solution. As a result RIM can offer users of the recently announced WLAN-enabled BlackBerry 7270 phone a number of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony functions. Besides making and receiving SIP calls, the BlackBerry 7270 users are allowed to transfer calls from their desk phone to the BlackBerry one, thus being able to continue their in-progress calls. Moreover, they automatically receive an e-mail to notify them whenever there’s a new voice call. The e-mail contains an embedded link, which leads the users to the voice message. RIM hopes that with Cisco they’ll be able to expand the usage of their BlackBerry WLAN solution to enterprises that have already deployed CallManager 5.0.” via phonearena.com
