When Samsung unveiled the Omnia HD last month, it said this upcoming multimedia-oriented smartphone will be based on Symbian S60. A new but unconfirmed report now indicates that there will also be a Windows Mobile version.Those keeping an eye on the Omnia series might be justified in feeling a touch of whiplash. The original Omnia runs Windows mobile, so there was a bit of surprise when Samsung revealed that the follow-up, the Omnia, would run a different operating system. Now there’s word that the upcoming version of this phone will also be available with Windows Mobile 6.5. If this report is correct, then this version of the Omnia won’t hit the market before the last quarter of this year, as Windows Mobile 6.5 is still in development and won’t be available until that time.
The upcoming Omnia model will offer the world’s first 700p HUD video recording and decoding on a mobile phone, as well as the world’s largest active-matrix OLED screen: 640 by 360 pixels, the 3.7-inch screen.It will have a strong emphasis on recording and playing video.
