Rumors on Alcatel’s first smartphone to pack an octa-core processor emerged a few weeks ago, so the company’s announcement that went live earlier today should not surprise too many of us. The previously leaked One Touch Idol X+ has just been officially introduced in China and will soon go on sale for only 2,000 yuan outright, which is about $330 or €240. Aside from the powerful handset which already has a pretty low price in comparison with what it has to offer in terms of hardware, TCL,the owner of Alcatel brand, also offers a free Bluetooth activity plus sleep tracker in the sales package. The so-called Boom Band is in fact a plastic wristband that alerts Alcatel One Touch Idol X+ owners when they leave their phones behind.
Hardware-wise, the One Touch Idol X+ is equipped with MediaTek’s MT6592 chipset that accommodates a 2GHz octa-core processor and 2GB of RAM.
The enhanced version of Idol X+ is only 7.9mm thick and strongly resembles the standard model. For the time being, the smartphone will only be available in black and white, while the Boom Band can be bought in several color options.
It is also worth mentioning the smartphone boasts an impressive 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary camera in the front.
Alcatel One Touch Idol X+ also sports a 5-inch full HD (1080p) IPS capacitive touchscreen display and is powered by a high-capacity 2,500 mAh Li-Ion battery.
