There have been a lot of rumors on the next BlackBerry 10 handset the Canadian company would launch this year, but none of them was confirmed until BlackBerry’s last quarterly earnings call from John Chen, who talked about a device called “Jakarta.”
BlackBerry “Jakarta” was leaked a while ago via handset manufacturer Foxconn, along with some details on its specs, which suggested that that was the mid-range BlackBerry 10 smartphone. Today, N4BB.com reports that the first official specs for the BlackBerry “Jakarta” have been leaked along with the first press render of the smartphone. Judging by the look of the handset, BlackBerry “Jakarta” could be a solid choice for those who wish a full touch BlackBerry 10 device but can’t afford to grab the Z10 or Z30.
According to the latest hearsay, BlackBerry “Jakarta” should be available for purchase this year for around $150 (€110) outright. The information has yet to be confirmed, and the price may vary by country, but if it proves accurate, this might be even cheaper than the Q5.

The “Jakarta” is expected to go official later this month at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, as BlackBerry Z3. No word on when it will hit shelves, but we suspect that it will be available several weeks after its official release.

The smartphone will be equipped with a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. There aren’t any details on the presence of the microSD card slot for memory expansion, but expect the budget-friendly smartphone to offer this feature as well.

Furthermore, BlackBerry Z3 “Jakarta” is said to sport a large 5-inch qHD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution.

On the back, the device packs a 5-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, while in the front, there’s a secondary 1.1-megapixel camera.

We also know that BlackBerry Z3 will be powered by a 2650 mAh non-removable battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer. Stay tuned for more updates on the smartphone’s exact release date and price tag.
