StyleTap Coming to the Apple iPhone / iPod Touch?

“StyleTap, the company that develops a Palm OS environment for Windows Mobile devices, has posted a video of an experimental version of StyleTap running on a iPod Touch. According to the company, the video is more of a proof of concept and not an actual product at this time. StyleTap is also not saying definitively whether or not they will release a official version. In the video the Touch is shown running a variety of native Palm OS applications. Bobby Chew, a developer for StyeTap says “This experimental version can run ARMlets and because of the screen size, uses hi-res (double density) bitmaps and fonts. If Apple’s security and application installation and distribution scheme isn’t too restrictive, it looks like StyleTap will be able to run the same applications on the iPhone/Touch, Symbian and Windows Mobile/CE platforms.” Since there is no Apple approved method at this time to install any outside applications on its mobile devices, it is likely any release would have to wait until Apple releases their official iPhone/Touch SDK. The model shown in the video has been “jailbroken” in order to modify it to run third party applications. Apple previously promised to put an SDK in developers hands by the end of February, however as of this writing they have not posted any further details.” via palminfocenter.com

Palm Centro for AT&T Wireless review!

“Back in October 2007, we reviewed the Palm Centro, at that time exclusive to Sprint in the US. Now AT&T is offering the GSM version of Palm’s most affordable PDA phone. Selling for $50 less than the Treo 680 on AT&T Wireless, the Centro is also smaller and lighter. The Centro is an introductory level PDA phone that runs Palm OS Garnet 5.4.9 (same as the 680) and it does most everything the 680 does, with a less expensive casing. PDA phones and smartphones (what’s the difference: PDA phones have touch screens) used to sell for $500 but these days, prices have dropped, and even power-user models like the AT&T Tilt selling for considerably less. AT&T’s smartphone lineup is so broad that the Centro’s biggest competition comes from within AT&T’s line: the Samsung BlackJack II, Pantech Duo and BlackBerry Pearl also sell for $99 with a 2 year contract. The BlackBerry Curve, Treo 680 and Motorola Q Global sell for $149. Palm and AT&T are betting that Palm OS fans and touch screen lovers will flock to the only $99 device with a touch screen. The hip, young look and small size are attractive to youthful first time smartphone buyers and the touch screen has become a hotter commodity since the introduction of the iPhone. And unlike Windows Mobile, the Centro, like all Palm OS devices, syncs to Mac OS out of the box.The Centro, like the Treo 680 but unlike the Treo 750, has EDGE but no 3G for data. It weighs only 4.2 ounces and uses the same Marvel PXA 312MHz processor as the Treo 680 (the Treo 750 has a 300MHz Samsung processor). It has Bluetooth, a 320 x 320 pixel color touch screen, PTT and is a quad band GSM world phone. It’s available in two colors: Glacier white with green accents and Obsidian black (available approximately mid-March). ” Read more here:

Nokia N96 Hands on Preview at allaboutsymbian!

“The N96’s overall design and styling is very similar to that of the N81, but there are elements of the N95, N82 and N81 in the design too. The overall impression is that of polished, flat surfaces with silver highlights. The N96, at least subjectively, looks and feels like a high end device and this should improve the device’s appeal among style conscious users. At 103 x 55 x 18 mm, the N96 is relatively large, but much of that is necessary to accommodate the large 2.8inch screen. It is marginally longer and wider than the N95, but very slightly thinner.” Read more here:

Google Releases Native Search client for Symbian S60

“Google has released a native client for Google search for S60 phones. The application, available via the Google mobile site, places a shortcut to a Google search box on the Idle screen (unfortunately only for devices with either a ‘Ctrl’ or ‘pencil/edit’ key), but is also accessible via the usual application launcher on all devices. Typing in a query to the search box and pressing search opens up Web and takes you to the results page for that Google query in one go. It uses the new Google Mobile search service we mentioned a few weeks ago. Last week Google and Nokia announced that Google Search would be added to the Nokia Mobile Search application that ships with all recent S60 devices. This means that Google Search will soon be available via Nokia’s search client. As such, Google’s release of its own native search client is something of an unnecessary repetition. However the benefits of the Google search client is its immediate availability, its specificity and the fact it is much faster loading than Nokia’s client. I was able to go from a standing start to a search result in around 5 seconds (less if you’re quick at T9).The application adds a shortcut to the Google Search client from the Idle screen. The second screenshot shows the Google search box as it appears from the Idle screen shortcut (it looks the same if you launch via the application menu).” Read more here:

Nokia displays new, improved E90 at MWC

“Nokia didn’t make any announcements regarding new devices in its E-series (probably due to the Vodafone UK leak?) but it does not mean that the brand did not have anything to show off at the Mobile World Congress. At the Nokia stall, we laid our hands on the new version of the E90 Communicator! The specifications remain the same as the older version and the only visible changes are cosmetic. After initial complaints of the keypad scratching the screen, Nokia has changed the interior QWERTY keypad without compromising on the usability factor (you can see the scratches on our E90 on the right). We’d like to believe that the ear-piece has also been changed after users complained of a fuzzy noise that could be heard in the background. The colour has also been changed from Mocha to classic Black, though we prefer our Mocha E90. According to the representative manning the stall, the new version will be out in the market in a few weeks. So if you are planning to go for the E90, we’d suggest you to hang in there a little longer. Trust us; it’d be worth the wait.” via cellpassion.mobi
